Please note – it is common for email accounts to be setup incorrectly and still work temporarily, an incorrect setup can lead to issues arising at a later date. This may be for a number of reasons: DNS Settings – if you have recently updated your named servers, MX or A records you may be experiencing a propagation period which often passes within 24 hours. Check Quota – each email account has a quota (disk space storage) of 250MB, if your email account exceeds this amount, you will not be able to receive anymore emails until you purchase a larger package. Incorrect Account Settings – Always ensure your settings are correct and refer to the setup video for additional help. As a final option, please contact your account manager for further assistance. In the event that you cannot send emails, this usually means one thing: your internet service provider (ISP) such as virgin, bt, and sky – is blocking you from sending outgoing mail through their connection. Many ISPs block port 25, the channel used for communication between an email client and an email server, to prevent their internet connection from being used as spam. In order to work around this issue change the default port from 25 to 26; whilst also double checking that your have authenticated your outgoing mail server by selecting the effected account, select manual configuration, advanced settings, outgoing mail, and tick the outgoing server authentication, then select ok and you’re complete! Well, here’s the basics. Web hosting simply allows you to display your website online. It does this by saving your website files (designs) and database (content) to a server. So, in short, your website is saved to a server (which is home to your website, this is hosting), then, it is displayed online. WHAT TYPE OF HOSTING DO I NEED FOR MY WEBSITE? Well, there are 2 key factors that influence both the cost of hosting your website and the package you’ll need: DISK SPACE Disk Space is the storage space on your server. So, if you have lots of images on your PC, the more images you save to it the more space it takes up. This is how Disk Space works. The more files (image, text, etc) you add to your website, the more space is taken up. If 60-80% of you disk space is taken up your website then becomes in danger of crashing. This is discussed later in the article BANDWIDTH In it’s simplest term bandwidth effects the number of visits allowed to your website. When someone visits your website they are requesting to view your website from your server. The server than transfers your website to the vistors PC. Each time this happens you use up bandwidth, until your website crashes because there is no more bandwidth. Therefore, its important to have enough bandwidth for your website hosting to ensure you have enough for the number of visitors you expect to recieve in the month. Now of course, this depends on your website popularity online, business reputation, SEO and Adwords marketing and other marketing tools for your website. HOSTING TYPE SUMMARY Depending on the size of your website, and the number of people visiting your website will determine the website hosting package you require. Use the guidelines below to help with estimating your web hosting package. Small Website- Disk Space around 100MB, and with a Bandwidth of 1GB. Large Website- Disk Space aroudn 1GB, and with a Bandwidth of 10GB. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME? Website packages vary tremendously, but on the whole, you should be looking to pay around £5-10 per month for a small business package, and approximately £10-50 per month for an ecommerce website.
