If you’re a small business owner and looking to improve your online presence with Google then it’s pretty darn important that you complete these next 5 tips.

When you’re creating or writing up a page remember, write like a journalist would! Why? Its simple, journalists include: titles, images, font and formating varients to emphasize important statements, whilst they also make use of referencing and linking to other resources. You’ll learn to love doing precisely the same things.

1. Titles and URLs

Its what draws the bait in, not only will an attractive title appeal to those you’re targeting, but it also tells Google “this is what we’re about!”. Next up, URLs, these are the long links in the browser title that you see. A great example is our website – www.pavawebdesign.com/services/seo. By creating custom URLs you are using another great indicator that Google reads to understand what your website is all about.

2. Header Tags

These tags are great for breaking down content, identifying important areas of your “article” or page just like headers and sub-headers when writing an article you use them in exactly the same way. You can also use a variety of tags which determine the size of the headers in html code. These also tell Google the large the more important – H1, H2, H3, H4, H5.

3. Alt Tags for Images

The use of images is crucial for any website or online marketing today, images tell a thousand words remember. So use those images, but also keep in mind that Google does not yet know how to read or determine what an image is about. This is where image tags or better known as Alt Tags come in. By using alt tags for your image you are simply giving your image a name, again telling Google, look this is what this image is about!

4. Anchor Text

So what is anchor text and why is it so import? Well, you know those ‘Read More’ and ‘Learn More’ links. Well these are Anchor text. So rather than telling Google to click ‘Read More’ we should aim to use something like ‘Read More on SEO’ to tell Google and more importantly the user exactly what the next page is going to be able. This not only helps Google understand the page more, but helps users by making links blantantly obvious as to what they are and what they are about.

5. Link Building

Link Building is the proceed of getting link from other websites to link to your websites pages. The more relevant and trustworth the website link is the better. You should always be looking to gain links from websites that are similar to you own, within the same industry.
